The Agricultural Office signed a cooperation agreement with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to prepare and supervise several agricultural and development projects in Basra Governorate.
The scope of work includes providing specialized scientific and technical consultations in various fields, including:
Climate-smart agriculture, through an expert specializing in agricultural value chains, aimed at enhancing production efficiency and sustainability in light of climate change.
Livestock, through consultations from an expert to develop animal breeding and production systems and improve the management of feed and genetic resources.
Agricultural engineering, through specialized engineering consultations focused on developing irrigation technologies and sustainable agricultural production.
Fisheries, through the supervision of an expert aiming to improve fish farming systems and promote aquaculture in local environments.
This partnership aims to develop agricultural performance in Iraq, enhance the capabilities of local personnel, and transfer international expertise in the fields of agriculture, environment, and rural development.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed, emphasized that this cooperation with GIZ represents an important step towards advancing applied academic work and linking scientific research to the actual needs of society. He noted that the college seeks to enhance its role as a leading scientific and consulting center at both the national and regional levels.
For its part, the organization commended the high scientific and professional level of the experts at the College of Agriculture's office, emphasizing its commitment to continued cooperation in the areas of sustainable agricultural development and addressing the challenges of food security and climate change.
